Fine Antiques was formed from the combination of a Christchurch Art Gallery and an Antiques Specialist business, offering a traveling valuation appraisal service for over 16 years.
With the massive demand for formal contents valuations generated by the Canterbury Earthquakes, it was decided to focus on valuation and have since provided thousands of valuation reports.
The majority of our reporting has been for insurance companies and deceased estates. We also provide aid for marital separation, business liquidation and reporting on extensive collections such as: the Ferrymead Heritage Parks (Gramophone collection), the Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand (Christchurch collection), the Otago Regional Councils art collection, and many more substial collections.
We are serious about providing fair and reasonable values, using many sources to research value to ensure up-to-date documentation.
Resources include:
Access to many major indexes, an extensive and varied library of reference material, and well experienced staff that regualar travel throughout New Zealand, visiting retail outlets and influential art and antique auctions.
We know the difference between realistic prices achieved at auction and the exceptional unusual prices (driven up by unique auction competition).
Many New Zealand valuation services provide their appraisal reports as side-line activities to their antique shop or auction house. Their appraisals are often based on their own sales experience, not undergo research to understand the prices other venues may achieve.
We do not value based on personal sales experience. We use research and current New Zealand based experience to enable an understanding of the correct fair value of your items.
